Religious Tattoo Design Ideas
What is probably the earliest form of tattoo idea is the religious tattoo. This was more common in the East where different emblems of religious beliefs were tattooed on the forearm of people. Women in India and Nepal had their husbands names tattooed on their forearms as they were not supposed to utter their names openly and it was easier to show the tattoo to tell others their husband's name.
In Western countries religious tattoo designs were not accepted earlier, but are very popular now. The designs that are available in religious tattoos are breath taking and people go through a lot of trouble to have them tattooed on their bodies. Tats were taken as a barbaric concept in early European cultures even though they were very popular in the Far East. This is something which came to be accepted because of the early Christians who started having tattoos of religious pictures made on their bodies. The most common Christian tattoo was the sign of the cross which at that time could even cost them their life. After the Cross there were designs depicting their favorite saints,
angels
and even the crucifixion.
There are other forms of religious tattoos like the Mexican gangs. These people have their whole body tattooed with their religious designs. Religious tattoos are not just for those who want to make a statement of the religion they follow but as their preference in design. However, religious tattoos are usually done by those who follow that particular religion and not by those who are not part of that faith. In India and Nepal the Hindus have an "Om" tattooed on their arms as this is a mystic word. Apart from this the names and pictures of various Gods are also portrayed on their arms and sometimes torsos.
